Repairing digital cameras is the final resort – you too can avoid Failures

A camera is a sensitive object: the complexity of all its components is extremely delicate. If you add to that equation all the digital components - you’ll get a recipe for failures and breakdowns. In fact, as complex the camera gets – its price will get higher while a Failure might become more severe and expensive. You probably know that it’s not recommended to drop your camera on the floor, but do you know all the lethal enemies of your precious camera?

Know your camera’s lethal enemies

1.     Avoid dirt and dust – Every professional photographer knows that dust and dirt can harm not only the mechanical components, but also harm the lenses and buttons. In fact, one dust grain is enough to disable your camera. That’s why you should always be extra careful when you replace a lens, take out the batteries, or memory card. It’s probably not such a good idea to do any of these actions while you’re on the beach. On the other hand, if you have no choice – always try to stay in the cleanest environment and use a cleaning blower if possible. If you have any concerns that your camera was infected with dirt, you can always take it to a lab, where the professionals can help you clean the internal parts.

2.     Watch out! Water! – Cameras don’t suffer water in general, but digital cameras can fail instantly around them. If your camera will fall into water there won’t be much left to do in most cases. On the other hand, only a few know that even some tiny raindrops can cause a similar damage, and even a tiny spray of water can cause serious failures to your camera.
But water damage doesn’t necessarily accurse only from these scenarios: humidity is another wet enemy you should fear from: stepping out of an air conditioned room to the moist hot summer outside, taking pictures in a steamy bathroom – these can also harm your camera.

3.     Keep your camera away from creams, oils and dripping sandwiches – It might be important to use sun lotions – but keep them away from your camera and don’t store them together in the same bag. Keep your camera in a separate bag and store your sandwiches in a different place.

4.     Take extra care of your lenses – The camera’s lens is extremely delicate. If, for example, your lens will be exposed to dirt, dust and finger tips it might damage the quality if the photo in the best case, or fail to work completely in the worst case. If your lens will break, no one can fix it for you, just like no one can fix a broken glass. In order to keep your lens in tip top condition always wipe it with a special cloth and store it in a padded case. But most importantly: keep your lens away from falls and bruises.

Here are some more tips:

  • Never leave your camera in the sun or in a hot car.
  • It might be worthwhile to insure your camera and accessories, so in any case of breakdown the insurance will cover the coasts.
